About Us

The Project VisMO Owl program was created based on the feedback gathered in the previous programs and through a close collaboration with experienced classroom teachers, researchers, Mathematicians and origamists. Students will be introduced to foundational visuospatial concepts and spatial vocabulary that will provide tools for success throughout the program. A simplified design thinking process will be adapted to help students build connections between the content they are learning and their creative ideas.

Lisbeth Lopez Hernandez

My name is Lisbeth Lopez Hernandez. I went to UCSD to get my degree in Mathematics. I am currently at UCSD completing my Masters and teaching credential. Over the years I’ve volunteers at schools helping students sharpen their mathematic skills and feel confident in their own skills. I love learning and taking my time trying new things because practice and patience helps strengthen our skills that we can apply to the things we do. I enjoy working with kids because you can learn so much from what they do and the insights they share. They are curious about the world around them and I want to be there guiding them and supporting them in their journey to discovering themselves and what they love to do.

Melissa Diaz-Cisneros

I have worked in the field of education for over eleven years now, and each year feels like my first. Each year I feel that I learn and grow from my student’s inquiry and my quest for more knowledge. As a proponent for STEAM and equity, I spend much of my free time researching and finding new projects to support all children. My classroom is a community where all are welcome, and lessons are designed to show children scientists, dancers, musicians and mathematicians can be artist in their own world. A person with a big heart can be a STEAM leader, and my purpose is to help them see the world from this lens.
